The Canadian Curling Association, in partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada and Tim Hortons, has launched a new coach development program designed to assist community coaches who are involved specifically with youth curlers.
The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is moving towards a competency-based approach where coaches are trained in NCCP outcomes relevant to the age and ability of the participants that they will be coaching.
The Tim Hortons KidsCurl Coach Development Progarm is a 7 hour workshop that deals with everything from basic delivery/sweeping mechanics to program safety, set-up and logistics. It is designed for the community coach who is working with young curlers (8 to 12 years of age) and is introducing the basic skills of curling. The goals of this workshop are to help prepare coaches to coach KidsCurl participants.
The focus of the workshop is:
